D9 is a unit of extremes for deer hunters: a single Kern River drainage can drop from a 2,500-foot canyon floor to Piute Peak near 8,400 feet, stacking blue oak savanna, timbered Greenhorn and Kern Plateau crests, and Great Basin sage on the desert-facing east.
