California Deer Unit D8

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for California Game Management Unit D8.

D8 is a deer hunter's exercise in extreme verticality: the central-western Sierra here swings 3,000 to 5,000 feet within a single drainage, from blue oak and gray pine foothills near 1,500 feet to granite alpine basins above 11,000 feet along the Yosemite and Ansel Adams boundaries. We map where deer hold, on bitterbrush and mountain mahogany mid-slopes, shaded north-facing seeps as August creeks shrink, and the snow-driven push toward south- and west-facing benches late season. The pack includes Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, and a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
