Zone 2 drops you into the north-central Ozarks, a dissected plateau of oak-hickory ridges and cave-riddled karst hollows where relative relief between valley floor and ridgeline often tops 1,000 feet in less than half a mile, punishing deer hunters who read the map flat. River bottoms near 400 feet climb to Ozark tops around 2,300 to 2,500 feet, and fall movement hinges on white and red oak acorn crops, with spring-fed creeks and Norfork tailwaters holding water when upland branches dry to disconnected pools.
