Unit 6B is broken Mogollon Rim transition country south of Flagstaff, where the high pine plateau fractures into deep volcanic canyons and pine benches as it drops toward the Verde River and Beaver Creek drainages. For elk hunters that vertical contrast is everything: terrain climbs from roughly 4,800 feet in the juniper and pinyon canyon bottoms to about 8,200 feet of dense ponderosa near the Anderson Mesa fringe, with water pinching down to dirt tanks, seeps, and select Verde tributaries in dry years.
