Arizona Elk Unit 4B

Unit 4B is the steeper, more dissected southern face of the Mogollon Rim, a vertical and compartmentalized landscape where deep box canyons and long ridge fingers channel elk movement far more than land ownership does. Elevation runs hard and fast here, from roughly 4,500 feet in the juniper and pinyon desert transition up to 8,000-foot Rim benches where dense ponderosa and meadow grasses drive the best forage. Water tells the story too: springs and seeps cling to the Rim face while dirt tanks scatter the lower country, so in dry years elevation becomes the primary distribution factor.
