Unit 4A is defined by the Mogollon Rim itself, where a high forested plateau drops abruptly along sheer escarpments and finger canyons, giving elk hunters legitimate vertical country from roughly 5,500 feet below the Rim to 8,500 feet on the upper plateau. This is grass-and-forest terrain on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, with cool-season meadow grasses, oak browse, and perennial creeks and Rim springs driving movement more than tanks do.
